Nigerian vocalist Sola Allyson has opened up about a long-standing question many of her listeners have often raised — why her songs hardly ever mention the name Jesus.
In a recent conversation with Oyinmomo TV, the singer addressed the curiosity directly, clarifying her artistic identity and the philosophy behind her music.
Allyson made it clear that she has never identified herself as a gospel artiste, even though people frequently place her in that category. According to her, the depth, calmness, and spiritual undertone in her music often make people assume she belongs to the gospel genre, but that has never been her personal definition.
She explained that her music flows from authentic personal experience, not from the desire to fit into any religious group or artistic label. For her, music must be an honest reflection of one’s journey, emotions, and understanding of life.
Addressing the question of why she does not mention the name Jesus explicitly, Allyson noted that she does not believe calling His name repeatedly is what gives a song spiritual relevance or impact. She emphasized that God’s influence is not limited to how many times His name appears in a song, and that her work carries a message of truth and divine guidance even without direct references.
Her focus, she said, is on singing about life, growth, clarity, and inner awakening, trusting that people will connect with her music in a way that leads them closer to God on their own terms.
She added that keeping her message pure and pressure-free helps her remain consistent. Her audience, according to her, understands this path, and that is why her songs resonate with listeners across different beliefs and backgrounds. They are drawn not just to the sound, but to the sincerity and emotional depth behind her words.

“I don’t sing religious songs. I don’t call myself a gospel artiste — my name is Sola Allyson, and I am a singer.
Jesus didn’t ask us to keep mentioning His name or to use His name as a form of publicity.”
