The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has removed federal lawmaker Uzokwe Peter from its ranks over accusations of gross misconduct and activities deemed harmful to the party’s interests.
The expulsion was ratified during the party’s 24th Extra-Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, held in Abuja on December 4, 2025. According to the communiqué released after the meeting, the NEC — the party’s top policy-making body — upheld an earlier decision by the National Working Committee (NWC) to expel the lawmaker.
Uzokwe Peter, who represents Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was accused of engaging in multiple acts considered to be anti-party. The party stated that several petitions, backed by verified video evidence, revealed conduct that violated core provisions of the YPP constitution, particularly Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o), found on pages 70 and 71.
YPP emphasized that the actions attributed to the lawmaker breached the party’s long-standing commitment to internal discipline and collective unity. The communiqué reiterated the party’s “zero-tolerance approach to behavior capable of threatening cohesion or bringing the organization into disrepute.”
Beyond disciplinary matters, the NEC also used the meeting to address structural gaps within the party. It approved the election of new national officers to fill vacant positions, a move made in line with Section 82(1), (2), and (3) of the Electoral Act of 2022, which mandates political parties to maintain transparent and functional leadership organs.
In a closing resolution, the NEC expressed full confidence in the party’s National Chairman, Bishop Amakiri, applauding his leadership and reaffirming support for his administration as it continues organizational reforms.
