Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s safety, noting that his experience in the country contradicts the negative security reports he had encountered before his trip.
Johnson shared his thoughts on Thursday while speaking at the Imo State Economic Summit 2025 in Owerri, the state capital. Addressing participants, he explained that he was initially warned about possible security concerns in Nigeria but chose to proceed with his visit regardless.
He said, “Before coming to Owerri, I came across several comments from people claiming Nigeria might have security issues. I’m sure many of you have heard similar things. But I decided I would still make the trip. And let me ask you—do you feel unsafe here today? Of course not. We are all safe, and I feel completely secure. Thank you, Governor, for the efforts you are making.”
Johnson went on to commend Governor Hope Uzodimma for his ambitious push to ensure uninterrupted, 24-hour electricity supply across Imo State an initiative he believes will significantly boost economic growth and industrial expansion.
The former UK leader also highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence in driving development. He noted that AI would be a critical tool in helping the governor achieve his long-term transformation goals, describing the technology as an essential part of the future global economy.
