Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has strongly criticised opposition figures in the state who, according to him, are deliberately refusing to acknowledge his administration’s achievements in road construction because of political differences.
The governor made the remarks during a reception organised in honour of the Abia State Attorney-General, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN), in Isuikwuato on Saturday. At the event, Otti accused some political opponents of spreading misinformation and attempting to downplay the progress made by his government.
Otti expressed disappointment that certain individuals were allegedly attributing roads built under his administration to past governments. He argued that such behaviour contradicts the values traditionally associated with the Igbo people, whom he described as people known for honesty and integrity.
According to the governor, anyone who intentionally denies visible achievements or falsely credits them to others should reflect on their conduct. He suggested that such actions do not align with the principles of fairness and truthfulness that he believes define Igbo culture.
Despite the criticism from political rivals, Otti maintained that his administration would not be distracted by what he described as propaganda and false narratives. Instead, he said the government’s response would be to remain focused on delivering more development projects that directly benefit residents of the state.
He emphasised that the administration’s priority is to improve infrastructure and overall living conditions in Abia, stressing that tangible results would ultimately speak louder than political arguments.
“You cannot see a completed road and claim it was never built, or credit it to someone else,” the governor said while addressing attendees. “If someone does that deliberately, it raises questions about their honesty.”
Otti further alleged that some opposition figures have been saturating the public space with misleading claims about ongoing and completed projects, particularly road construction efforts across the state. However, he insisted that the best response from his government is continued performance and visible development.
The governor also used the occasion to appreciate a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogah, for openly acknowledging the achievements recorded by the current administration.
Otti described the support from Ogah as a demonstration that development should rise above partisan politics, noting that recognition of good governance should not be limited by party affiliation.
He also commended Attorney-General Uwanna, describing him as a key figure in the administration whose contributions have strengthened the government’s efforts to reform institutions and deliver effective governance in the state.
The governor concluded by reaffirming that his administration remains committed to transparency, infrastructure development, and policies that will improve the welfare of Abia residents, regardless of political criticism.
