Former presidential hopeful and renowned publisher, Dele Momodu, has formally pitched his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new chapter in his political journey. The announcement was made on Thursday in Benin City, the Edo State capital, where Momodu addressed a gathering of supporters and associates.
Speaking at the event, the Ovation magazine founder explained that his decision to align with the ADC was motivated by a genuine desire to advance the welfare and collective interests of the people. He was quick to dispel speculations about personal ambition, emphasizing that his move was not driven by the pursuit of any elective office within the state or at the national level.
Momodu used the occasion to reflect on his life story and long-standing connection to Edo State, particularly his hometown of Iwe. He described his return to active political engagement in the state as a symbolic and deliberate step, noting that he was formally reintegrating himself into the local political process after many years of national and international exposure.
Sharing a personal account of his struggles and sacrifices, Momodu recounted how decades of persistence, discipline, and careful planning enabled him to establish a lasting presence in his community. According to him, it took over 50 years of painstaking effort and prudent management of his modest earnings to build a home in Iwe, a feat that firmly anchored his roots and identity.
He stressed that his investments in his hometown were clear evidence of his commitment to the community, adding that no one could now question his connection to the area. Addressing his supporters, Momodu stated that his involvement in politics was guided by a sense of responsibility rather than ambition.
Responding to questions about whether he harbored aspirations to become a governor, senator, or hold any other political office, Momodu firmly ruled out such intentions. Instead, he said his primary goal was to contribute meaningfully to the progress of Edo State and Nigeria at large by promoting policies and actions that serve the people’s best interests.
In his view, political engagement should be about service, inclusion, and positive impact, not personal gain. With his entry into the ADC, Momodu expressed hope that he could play a supportive and advisory role in shaping a more people-oriented political culture.
