The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has attributed Nigeria’s persistent security challenges to what he described as deliberate and coordinated actions by unnamed individuals or groups intent on destabilising the country. He made this assertion while addressing party leaders and stakeholders at the 14th National Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Akpabio expressed deep concern over the scale and intensity of insecurity across the nation, noting that terrorism, banditry and insurgency have continued to inflict pain on communities and leave several states in mourning. According to him, the situation is not accidental but appears to be carefully organised to undermine national progress and unity.
He told President Bola Tinubu and other senior party figures that as Nigeria strives for growth and stability, it inevitably attracts resentment and hostility. Akpabio argued that envy and jealousy often give rise to hatred, which in turn manifests as serious challenges, including violent attacks and unrest.
Lamenting the human cost of the insecurity, the Senate President stressed that many families and entire communities are grieving the loss of loved ones. He called on the APC leadership to remain united and resolute in supporting the President as the country confronts these difficulties.
“We are deeply saddened that some people have chosen to subject Nigeria to severe, well-planned insecurity,” Akpabio said. “As a nation progresses, it attracts envy and jealousy, and these negative emotions often translate into hatred and organised resistance. This is why we must stand together at this critical time.”
He assured President Tinubu of the caucus’ loyalty and support, adding that beyond political backing, members were also offering prayers for divine guidance and strength for the President to overcome the nation’s pressing challenges. He emphasised that the ultimate goal was peace, stability and prosperity for Nigeria.
Akpabio also expressed solidarity with states currently mourning victims of terrorist attacks, banditry and insurgency. He commended President Tinubu for the recent rescue of more than 100 children who had been abducted, describing it as a significant relief to affected families and communities.
While praising the successful rescue operation, he appealed for renewed efforts to secure the release of the remaining abducted children and ensure their safe return to their families. He further extended condolences to families who lost loved ones during the attacks, including members of the armed forces who died while trying to protect civilians and defend the nation.
“We thank Mr. President for the release of over 100 children who were kidnapped recently,” he said. “We pray that God grants him the strength and wisdom to ensure that the remaining children are also freed and reunited with their families. We also mourn with the families of civilians and security personnel who paid the ultimate price while safeguarding lives and property. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
Akpabio concluded by reiterating the need for collective resolve, compassion for victims, and unwavering support for ongoing efforts to restore security across the country.
