Nigerian international striker Paul Onuachu delivered another outstanding performance on Monday night, netting twice to help Trabzonspor secure a convincing 3–1 win over Kayserispor in the Turkish Süper Lig.
The 31-year-old forward opened the scoring just before halftime after timing his run perfectly to connect with a cross inside the box. Rising above the defenders, Onuachu powered a close-range header past the goalkeeper during first-half stoppage time, giving Trabzonspor a crucial lead heading into the break.
He wasted little time extending that advantage after the restart. Five minutes into the second half, a handball by László Bénes inside the penalty area prompted the referee to award a spot kick. Onuachu stepped up confidently and calmly dispatched the penalty with his right foot, putting the visitors firmly in control of the match.
The victory strengthens Trabzonspor’s position in the league standings as they continue their pursuit of the title leaders, Fenerbahçe S.K. and Galatasaray S.K., with the Turkish top-flight season entering its decisive phase.
Beyond the result, the brace also earned Onuachu a place in the club’s recent history. His goals mean he has now scored in seven consecutive league games for Trabzonspor, becoming the first player at the club to achieve the feat in 14 years. The last player to accomplish that run was Turkish striker Burak Yılmaz during the 2011–2012 campaign.
Onuachu’s remarkable form this season has made him one of the most influential players in the Trabzonspor squad under head coach Fatih Tekke. Across all competitions, the Nigerian forward has now registered 22 goals and two assists, underlining his importance to the team’s attacking strength.
In the Süper Lig alone, Onuachu has contributed directly to nearly 40 percent of the club’s total goals, playing a major role in keeping Trabzonspor within reach of a potential qualification spot for the UEFA Champions League next season.
His scoring consistency has also been striking. The towering striker has now found the net in nine consecutive appearances across both league and domestic cup matches, further highlighting his impressive run of form since the turn of the year.
Throughout his professional career, Onuachu has reached the 20-goal mark in a single season five times. Before his exploits in Turkey, he achieved similar milestones during his spells with KRC Genk and FC Midtjylland.
Since returning from international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in late January, the Nigerian striker has been in sensational form, scoring against several league opponents including Fatih Karagümrük, Kasımpaşa S.K., Antalyaspor, Fenerbahçe S.K., Gaziantep F.K. and İstanbul Başakşehir F.K., while also scoring twice against Samsunspor.
Trabzonspor had earlier dominated the first meeting between the two sides this season, thrashing Kayserispor 4–0, with Onuachu contributing both a goal and an assist in that encounter.
With his current form showing no signs of slowing down, the Nigerian striker is rapidly becoming one of the most decisive players in the Turkish top flight as Trabzonspor pushes to finish the season strongly.
