The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Lukman Wurno, Chairman of its Birnin Kudu Local Government chapter, following allegations of misconduct. This decision was officially communicated through a statement issued by the party’s Local Government Secretary, Lawan Ahmed.
The statement revealed that Wurno was directed to immediately cease identifying himself as the PDP Chairman of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area. In his place, the party has appointed Ibrahim Maigida Halimbe as Acting Chairman until further instructions are provided by the national leadership.
According to the PDP, the suspension was carried out in strict accordance with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures, which are designed to maintain unity, discipline, and accountability within party structures. The statement further emphasized that the leadership remains committed to transparency, highlighting that internal disciplinary measures are essential for strengthening organizational cohesion. Party officials also appealed to members to remain calm, continue their support for PDP activities at the local level, and assured them that steps were being taken to reorganize and strengthen the party structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a parallel development, the Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended Jimi Adebola Lawal over alleged anti-party activities. The State Chairman, Femi Soluade, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday, noting that the move was aimed at restoring stability and internal cohesion within the party.
Soluade accused Lawal, a former aide to ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, of actions inconsistent with the ADC’s internal democratic framework. He stated, “We have suspended Mr. Jimi Adebola Lawal and declared him a non-member of the party due to activities inconsistent with the principles and internal democratic framework of the ADC.”
The chairman alleged that Lawal had attempted to dominate party structures through what he described as the “systematic acquisition” of two local government chapters in Ijebu Ode and Sagamu, as well as the dismantling of existing state and local leadership frameworks. These structures have now been restored to their original leadership to re-establish internal balance and inclusiveness.
Further attempts by Lawal to exert control over other state or local party structures have been halted to protect internal democracy and ensure equal participation for all party members. Soluade also confirmed the establishment of a caretaker committee to temporarily fill vacant state executive and local government chairmanship positions. This measure, he said, is intended to stabilize party operations ahead of the forthcoming state congress, which is yet to be scheduled.
Both the PDP and ADC moves reflect a broader effort by Nigerian political parties to enforce internal discipline, prevent power consolidation, and prepare their structures for upcoming electoral contests.
