An overnight assault by armed men has left at least four residents dead in Otobi-Akpa, a community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. The attackers, believed to be suspected herdsmen, reportedly struck in the early hours of Tuesday, plunging the area into fear and chaos.
Sources revealed that the gunmen stormed the community at about midnight, firing gunshots indiscriminately as terrified residents scrambled to escape and seek safety. The invasion reportedly continued for several hours, forcing many villagers to flee into nearby bushes and neighboring communities.
Those confirmed killed in the attack include Hon. Ochi Ayedu, Eje Uzu, Alinko, and Achibi. As of the time of this report, several residents are still unaccounted for, raising concerns that the casualty figure may rise.
This latest violence has reopened wounds in Otobi-Akpa, which suffered a similar brutal attack just a few months ago. During that earlier incident, no fewer than 13 people were reportedly killed, many others sustained injuries or went missing, and over 50 homes were destroyed by fire.
Community members have expressed deep frustration and fear over the recurring attacks, calling on security agencies and the government to urgently step up protection and prevent further bloodshed.
