The Abia State chapter of the Obidient Movement has firmly refuted reports alleging that it threatened to withdraw its support for Governor Alex Otti ahead of the 2027 elections over his refusal to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The group described such claims as misleading, inaccurate, and a distortion of its official position.
In a statement jointly signed by a member of the National/South East Advisory Council, Ebere Obiesie; the Abia State Secretary, Elder Bethel Nwokoma; and the Movement’s spokesperson, Chibuzor Obiesili, the group clarified that its recent press briefing was misconstrued by sections of the media. According to the statement, the press conference held on Wednesday was never intended to issue threats or ultimatums to Governor Otti, nor did it suggest withdrawing support for his administration.
The Obidient Movement explained that the purpose of the briefing was to condemn what it described as coordinated political attacks against Governor Otti by former governors of the state and their loyalists. It stressed that the focus of its remarks was on exposing and denouncing actions aimed at undermining the current administration, not on questioning the Governor’s political affiliations or loyalty to any individual or party.
Reaffirming its position, the group urged members of the public to disregard reports claiming that it demanded Governor Otti’s defection to the ADC or tied its continued support to such a move. It emphasized that these narratives are false, baseless, and do not reflect the collective will or resolutions of the Abia Obidient Movement.
The statement further praised Governor Otti for what it described as people-focused governance and visible developmental progress across the state. The Movement acknowledged the administration’s efforts in rebuilding institutions, improving infrastructure, and restoring public confidence in governance, noting that these strides align with its core values of accountability, transparency, and service to the people.
In strong terms, the Obidient Movement distanced itself from what it called a “calculated gang-up” by three former governors and their associates, accusing them of pursuing selfish political interests at the expense of Abia State’s growth. It warned that such actions are regressive and capable of derailing the positive momentum currently being recorded in the state.
Concluding the statement, the Abia State chapter of the Obidient Movement reiterated its unwavering support for Governor Alex Otti and his administration. It commended the Governor’s commitment to good governance and urged the public to remain focused on the ongoing transformation in Abia State rather than being distracted by misinformation and politically motivated narratives circulating in some media outlets.
