Wilfred Ndidi is poised to assume full leadership of the Super Eagles, with strong indications that he will be confirmed as Nigeria’s new captain ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder has long been regarded as one of the squad’s key leaders, having earned 71 international caps since making his debut in 2015. His transition into the role comes at a pivotal moment, following the retirement of long-serving captain William Troost-Ekong. Ekong officially announced the end of his decade-long international career on Thursday, closing a remarkable chapter that saw him make 83 appearances and guide Nigeria through several major tournaments.
