Popular Nollywood actor and filmmaker Ajemba Stanley, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, has raised concerns over the outcome of the recent Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) national election held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in Edo State, claiming that his colleague Rita Daniels was unfairly denied victory.
According to Naija News, Rita Daniels, mother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, lost the guild’s presidential contest to Abubakar Yakubu, the National Secretary of AGN. Reacting to the election results on his Instagram page, Stanley described the outcome as “questionable” and expressed disappointment over what he perceives as interference by influential figures in Abuja.
He wrote, “It appears the process was unfair, particularly concerning Hon. Rita Daniels’ candidacy. The alleged influence of powerful individuals in Abuja is concerning. I acknowledge other winners, but the presidential election outcome is questionable. It is regrettable that some delegates prioritized personal gain over the integrity of the association. Regina’s mum would have won Yakubu hands down, but powers in Abuja hijacked it. It’s well!! Shame on una.”
Despite the controversy, the elections also saw Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa emerge as the National Vice President of the AGN. This development was officially confirmed in a statement released by her media office on Monday, December 8, 2025. The statement highlighted that her election reflects the confidence and trust the guild members have in her experience and dedication to advancing the association’s objectives.
Upon assuming her new role, Amusa pledged to bring fresh ideas, structure, and committed service to the AGN Secretariat. She further emphasized that her extensive experience in acting and film production would enable her to advocate for better opportunities for Nigerian actors and actresses nationwide, strengthening the growth and professionalism of the country’s film industry.
The election results have reignited discussions within Nollywood about transparency, influence, and fairness in guild leadership elections, with industry stakeholders closely watching how the newly elected executives will steer the association forward.
