Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, was warmly received in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Sunday as she was formally conferred with the prestigious title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua. The honour, bestowed upon her by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, marked a major highlight of activities commemorating the monarch’s tenth year on the throne.
Senator Tinubu arrived at the Ooni’s Palace shortly after 1 p.m., welcomed by a vibrant display of culture, music, and traditional rites. Security was visibly heightened as crowds gathered within and around the Palace Square to witness the historic moment. The Ooni, accompanied by his chiefs and palace officials, personally received the First Lady before the ceremonial proceedings began.
The event drew an impressive array of dignitaries from across the country. Among the attendees were the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar; former President Olusegun Obasanjo; and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun. Traditional rulers, political leaders, and cultural associations also arrived in large numbers, reflecting the significance of the title and the occasion.
Beyond the installation itself, the ceremony symbolized unity across cultural and political lines, showcasing the deep ties between Yoruba heritage and the broader Nigerian traditional landscape.
