A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, convened in Abuja on Sunday to discuss the future direction of the party and strategies for internal restructuring.
Opening the session, BoT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa emphasized that the body remains committed to rebuilding trust within the PDP. He noted that one of their immediate priorities is the organization of congresses in states where such exercises have been delayed or not yet conducted. According to him, renewed internal democracy is essential for repositioning the party ahead of future political contests.
Senator Ohuabunwa assured members that the party’s national leadership is willing to collaborate closely with state chapters to usher in fresh, stable, and credible leadership across the federation. He described this partnership as a collective effort aimed at restoring the PDP’s strength and coherence at all levels.
Outlining a clear roadmap, Ohuabunwa stressed three key objectives: completing outstanding congresses in affected states, building on the party’s current progress, and offering full support to the national leadership as it works to recalibrate the PDP’s direction. He underscored that these measures are crucial for promoting unity, enhancing transparency, and boosting grassroots participation—elements he said are necessary for revitalizing the party’s internal structures.
Overall, the meeting reflected ongoing efforts by the pro-Wike faction of the BoT to reinforce stability within the PDP and ensure that the party emerges more cohesive and strategically prepared for upcoming political challenges.
