Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has praised the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, for his pivotal role in Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.
Speaking on Sunday at the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS), held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Akume highlighted the significant reforms implemented under Olukoyede’s leadership. He credited these measures as instrumental in Nigeria’s successful exit from the FATF grey list in October 2025.
The NEAPS awards, organised jointly by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and The Best Strategic Media, celebrate outstanding contributions in public service. This year, 44 distinguished public servants were honoured, including five state governors, federal ministers, and heads of key government agencies.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ceremony, Akume emphasized that the awards aim to recognise public officers whose exceptional dedication and innovative leadership have positively impacted national development. “These awards are established to honour exemplary service by public office holders who are driving transformative changes across the country,” he stated.
Olukoyede’s recognition, Akume explained, was based on his remarkable achievements in enhancing the EFCC’s anti-corruption mandate. Under his stewardship, the commission has intensified efforts against money laundering, executed high-profile investigations, and recovered assets worth hundreds of billions of naira, strengthening Nigeria’s financial integrity on the global stage.
Beyond external accomplishments, Olukoyede has also implemented key internal reforms within the EFCC to boost operational efficiency, accountability, and credibility, ensuring that the commission remains a robust institution in the fight against financial crimes.
The awards ceremony attracted an array of prominent figures, including state governors, federal ministers, agency heads, and private sector leaders, all gathered to celebrate excellence, innovation, and integrity in public service.
