The Bauchi State Government has firmly rejected circulating reports alleging that Governor Bala Mohammed is considering abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). Officials dismissed the claims as baseless fabrications crafted to create political tension.
The clarification followed a statement credited to the PRP’s Publicity Secretary in Bauchi State, Hon. Wada Abdullahi, who asserted that even if the rumours of Governor Mohammed’s defection were true—rumours he linked to an alleged crisis within the PDP—the PRP would not accept him. Abdullahi claimed the party had drawn a “clear line,” insisting that Governor Mohammed would not be welcome under any circumstances. He accused the governor of “poor performance” and a supposed disregard for democratic principles.
Responding to these assertions, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, released a detailed statement on Wednesday reaffirming Governor Mohammed’s unwavering commitment to the PDP. According to Gidado, the governor has never considered leaving the party and has made no overt or covert moves toward joining the PRP or any other political group.
Gidado described Governor Mohammed as one of the pillars working to strengthen internal democracy within the PDP and stabilize the party at both state and national levels. He criticized the PRP’s comments as misinformed and dismissive of the strides the current administration has made.
Highlighting the progress achieved under the Mohammed administration, Gidado pointed to significant improvements across various sectors—empowerment initiatives, infrastructure expansion, rural transformation, urban renewal, and tourism development. He noted that these accomplishments contradict the PRP’s negative portrayal of the governor’s performance.
The government further urged citizens to remain discerning, warning that political actors often resort to sensational claims simply to sustain relevance in the public space. According to the statement, while Governor Mohammed retains the constitutional freedom to determine his political path, any future decisions would be based on facts and personal conviction—not on “malicious propaganda or deliberate misinformation.”
In summary, the Bauchi State Government insists that Governor Bala Mohammed remains firmly rooted in the PDP and continues to focus on delivering developmental gains to the people of the state.
