The leadership of the Accord Party has strongly refuted claims of internal conflict and alleged suspension of its National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, describing the reports as fabricated distractions circulated by political opportunists and opposition figures.
In an official statement, Hon. Oke Rotimi Michael—Spokesperson for the Forum of State Chairmen (South West) and Chairman of the Ogun State chapter—made it clear that the circulating rumours have no basis in reality. He noted that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), during its meeting on December 3, 2025, unanimously passed a vote of confidence in both the National Chairman and the entire National Working Committee.
“At no point during the NEC meeting was any disciplinary measure taken against Mr. Mgbudem,” he stressed. “The stories being shared online are entirely false and aimed at causing unnecessary tension. Accord remains a disciplined, constitutional, and united political party. No baseless accusation will disrupt that.”
The party also dismissed statements made by former Presidential Candidate Prof. Chris Imumolen, whose group had questioned the legitimacy of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent move to Accord. Imumolen’s camp described Adeleke’s defection as irregular and “invalid,” claiming that due process was not followed.
Hon. Oke Rotimi, however, stated that Imumolen has no authority to speak for the party, revealing that he was expelled for repeated acts of misconduct, including attempting to seize party structures, forcing entry into the national secretariat in 2024, and persistently violating party protocols.
“It is laughable that someone expelled for anti-party behaviour still parades himself as a leader,” Rotimi said. “His statements are null and void. Members and the public should disregard anything emanating from his faction.”
Supporting this, the Osun State Chairman of Accord, Pastor Victor Akande, reaffirmed Governor Adeleke’s authentic membership and candidacy. According to him, Adeleke officially joined Accord on November 6, 2025, was recognised publicly on December 9, and legitimately clinched the gubernatorial ticket during the primary held on December 10.
Pastor Akande urged rival parties to focus on presenting their achievements rather than spreading misinformation online.
“Elections are not won on social media,” he said. “Anyone serious about contesting should go to the field and show what they’ve accomplished. Osun State stands firmly with Accord, and Accord stands firmly with Osun.”
The party reiterated its unity and readiness ahead of the forthcoming elections, insisting that no external misinformation campaign can destabilize its ranks.
