The Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unlikely to secure re-election in the 2027 presidential polls, arguing that widespread public dissatisfaction with the current administration will determine the outcome.
Senator Abaribe made the assertion on Monday while speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today. During the interview, he dismissed claims that President Tinubu has an unbeatable electoral record, insisting that no politician is immune to electoral defeat.
According to the lawmaker, the economic and social challenges facing Nigerians under the present administration have generated deep frustration among the populace. He argued that the hardships associated with government policies and programmes have left many citizens disillusioned, a sentiment he believes will be reflected at the ballot box in 2027.
Abaribe also reiterated his long-held view on the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, maintaining that President Tinubu did not genuinely win the contest, despite being officially declared the victor. He explained that while the opposition accepted the declaration in the interest of national stability, it did not erase the grievances surrounding the electoral process.
“I do not believe that anyone is incapable of losing an election. Every politician can be voted out,” Abaribe said. “When the time comes, Nigerians will decide, and from what I can see and feel across the country, the people are already exhausted by the level of pain and pressure they are experiencing.”
The senator further stated that the opposition would be better prepared ahead of the next general election, noting that voters are becoming increasingly aware and determined to protect their votes. He suggested that the circumstances surrounding the 2023 election would not be repeated in 2027, as citizens and political actors alike are now more vigilant.
According to him, Nigerians are resolved to ensure greater transparency in future elections, adding that the electorate will no longer accept outcomes announced under questionable conditions. He expressed confidence that the combined readiness of opposition parties and the general public would make it difficult for the ruling party to retain power.
Abaribe concluded by stressing that democratic accountability ultimately rests with the people, asserting that the 2027 election would provide Nigerians with an opportunity to express their verdict on the performance of the Tinubu administration.
