The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted sharply to the Federal Government’s terrorism sponsors list, describing it as a calculated attempt to suppress its voice and discredit its campaign.
In a statement released on April 13, 2026, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said the inclusion of names on the list raises serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and due process.
The group, led by Nnamdi Kanu, argued that the development reflects what it called a broader effort to redefine its activities in a negative light, despite its claims of operating as a peaceful movement.
IPOB maintained that it has consistently pursued its objectives through non-violent means and should not be categorized alongside groups involved in acts of terrorism.
According to the group, the publication of the list appears aimed at discouraging support for its cause, particularly among the international community and its diaspora network.
The statement also highlighted concerns that such actions could deepen mistrust and tension, rather than contribute to resolving underlying issues.
Despite the controversy, IPOB reiterated that it remains committed to its demand for self-determination, stressing that labeling and public criticism would not weaken its resolve.
The group concluded by urging observers to critically assess the situation, adding that it would continue its agitation regardless of the Federal Government’s position.
