Nollywood actress Olayode Juliana, widely recognised for her role as Toyo Baby, has firmly dismissed speculation of a falling-out between her and acclaimed filmmaker Funke Akindele.
Addressing the rumours during a chat with BBC Pidgin, Olayode made it clear that there is no bad blood between them. According to her, Akindele remains someone she deeply admires and holds in high regard.
She described the award-winning actress and producer as a mentor figure in her life, noting that their relationship mirrors that of a mother and daughter within the industry. Olayode emphasised that contrary to online chatter, there is no tension, misunderstanding or hidden conflict between them.
Beyond addressing the alleged feud, the actress also spoke candidly about her personal values and how they influence her career decisions. Olayode reiterated her longstanding stance against kissing in movies, explaining that it is a boundary she has chosen based on her beliefs. She stated that she would only consider such a scene under very unlikely circumstances — such as being cast alongside her real-life husband — though she added that she does not intend to marry an actor.
Reflecting on her early days in Nollywood, Olayode admitted that she once struggled with public criticism. She revealed that negative comments used to leave her emotional and defensive, especially when she felt misunderstood. However, with time and experience, she has developed a thicker skin.
Now, she said, she no longer allows unverified claims or social media commentary to disturb her peace. Unless confronted directly, she prefers to ignore distractions and focus on her growth.
Speaking further, Olayode shared her perspective on purity, stressing that it extends far beyond sexual conduct. While many people associate purity solely with abstinence or moral discipline in relationships, she believes it encompasses integrity in character, finances, work ethics and even leadership.
According to her, living a pure life means striving for uprightness in every sphere — from personal dealings to professional responsibilities and governance. For Olayode, purity is not a narrow concept but a holistic standard she believes everyone is called to uphold.
Her comments not only dispel rumours of discord but also offer insight into the values shaping both her personal life and career trajectory.
