Popular Nigerian content creator and livestreamer Carter Efe has opened up about why he distanced himself from church attendance, revealing that conversations with fellow skit maker Sidney Talker significantly altered his perception of Christians.
Speaking during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Carter Efe recounted how certain advice from Sidney left him unsettled and ultimately influenced his personal decisions, both professionally and spiritually.
“The Advice Felt Malicious”
According to Carter Efe, Sidney once urged him to stop streaming at a time when his online presence was rapidly growing. He interpreted the suggestion as discouraging, particularly because he believed he was gaining momentum in the digital entertainment space.
The streamer also claimed that Sidney advised him to part ways with his streaming associate, Kolu, offering him just ₦1 million as severance. Carter Efe said he rejected the suggestion outright, instead choosing to strengthen his relationship with Kolu.
He further alleged that Sidney warned him about potential spiritual threats, claiming that controversial singer Portable, who previously worked with Kolu, possessed “juju” and could spiritually target him. Carter Efe said he found it contradictory that someone he regarded as a devout Christian would express fear over such beliefs.
Questioning Faith and Motives
Reflecting on the experience, Carter Efe said the situation made him rethink his assumptions about churchgoers. He explained that he had been a regular church attendee but began to question the sincerity and intentions of some individuals who publicly profess strong faith.
To him, the advice to abandon a flourishing career path and distance himself from a close associate did not align with what he expected from a committed Christian. The perceived inconsistency, he said, contributed to his decision to stop attending church services.
Friendship Over Fear
Rather than act on the warnings, Carter Efe said he chose to deepen his bond with Kolu, dismissing fears of spiritual attacks or hidden motives. He suggested that the episode reinforced his belief in trusting his instincts and maintaining loyalty to those he works closely with.
The revelations have sparked conversations online about mentorship, influence, and the role of personal belief systems in professional decision-making within Nigeria’s fast-growing digital entertainment industry.
While Sidney Talker has yet to publicly respond to the claims, Carter Efe’s comments have added another layer of intrigue to the often complex relationships behind the scenes of Nigeria’s content creation space.
