The Presidency has maintained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance since assuming office has left opposition parties increasingly frustrated and unable to gain political traction. According to the presidency, the administration’s growing record of achievements has made it difficult for rivals to challenge the government or present a compelling alternative to Nigerians.
This position was made public by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, who shared an Artificial Intelligence–generated video featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. In his commentary, Dare suggested that opposition figures are struggling to remain relevant in the face of what he described as Tinubu’s strong governance record.
Dare argued that political ambition without tangible results is futile, adding that the opposition’s hopes of capturing power are already extinguished. He stressed that the administration’s scorecard has put critics under pressure, making it increasingly difficult for them to gain public support. According to him, President Tinubu’s achievements speak louder than political rhetoric, leaving opponents with little room to maneuver.
Meanwhile, veteran Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has taken a sharply critical stance against the leadership of the National Assembly. Okonkwo has called for the immediate resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of undermining Nigeria’s democratic principles.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Okonkwo described Akpabio as a threat to democracy, particularly in light of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Senate’s position on the mandatory electronic transmission of election results. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain alleged that the Senate President is covertly working to entrench President Tinubu in power indefinitely.
Okonkwo further claimed that such actions could pave the way for a political succession within Tinubu’s family, alleging an agenda aimed at handing over power to the president’s wife or son after his tenure. These allegations add another layer of tension to the already heated national debate over electoral reforms and democratic accountability in Nigeria.
