The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected reports suggesting that Governor Dauda Lawal is planning to defect to the party, describing the claims as completely false and deliberately misleading.
In a statement released late Friday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, the APC denied receiving any correspondence from the governor indicating an intention to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling party. Idris said the report, which was alleged to have originated from Tambarin Gusau, lacked credibility and was designed to stir unnecessary controversy.
According to him, the story was not only unfounded but also a calculated attempt to spread misinformation and create tension within the political space in Zamfara State. He accused the promoters of the report of engaging in mischief rather than responsible political discourse.
“The Zamfara State chapter of the APC has come across a fabricated report allegedly coming from Tambarin Gusau, claiming that Governor Dauda Lawal submitted a letter to our party expressing his desire to defect to the APC,” Idris said.
He emphasized that the APC follows clearly defined procedures and official communication channels in all its dealings, stressing that no such letter had been received at either the state or national level of the party.
“At no point did the APC receive any letter from Governor Dauda Lawal as claimed. The party is also not aware of any move by the governor to defect from the PDP to the APC,” he added.
Idris called on party members, supporters, and the general public—especially residents of Zamfara State—to completely disregard the report. He described it as a work of imagination intended to mislead the public, generate confusion, and distract from genuine political issues.
The APC spokesperson urged the media and the public to verify political information from credible and official sources before circulating it, warning that the spread of false reports only undermines public trust and political stability in the state.
