Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has rejected the narrative that state governments are facing severe financial hardship, insisting that revenue inflows to states have improved significantly in recent times.
The governor made this assertion while speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Flyover project in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state. According to him, allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) have increased, providing state governments with more financial capacity to execute meaningful projects.
Oborevwori urged his fellow governors to be transparent with citizens about the improved revenue situation and to channel the additional funds into projects that directly impact the lives of the people. He stressed that there is no justification for claiming a lack of funds or concealing the true financial position of the states.
In his words, he made it clear that resources are available and should be used responsibly for development. He emphasized that his administration has chosen to deploy available funds to visible infrastructure projects, encouraging other states to do the same in order to improve public satisfaction and trust in governance.
The governor further noted that FAAC disbursements have risen considerably, placing state governments in a stronger position to fast-track development initiatives and deliver on their responsibilities to citizens. He maintained that effective utilization of these funds would not only drive growth but also reinforce confidence in leadership at the subnational level.
Speaking on the Otovwodo Flyover, Oborevwori described the project as a critical infrastructure intervention aimed at easing traffic congestion and stimulating economic activities within Ughelli and surrounding areas. He explained that the Otovwodo junction is a strategic transportation hub connecting Warri, Asaba and Patani along the East–West Road, making it one of the busiest corridors in Delta State.
He added that the flyover project reflects his administration’s broader vision of redefining the social contract with the people through accountable, transparent and people-focused governance. Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety and enhance commercial activities, thereby contributing to overall economic growth in the state.
