Popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has withdrawn all charges against TikTok content creator Eedie Bliss, paving the way for her release from police custody on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
Eedie Bliss regained her freedom after spending several days in detention, a development that followed mounting public outrage and sustained pressure on social media, where many Nigerians criticised her arrest and called for her immediate release.
Reports indicate that the decision to discontinue the case came just hours after outspoken social media commentator and activist, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, accused the actress of abusing state power and using law enforcement agencies to suppress dissent. According to him, the allegations against the TikToker amounted to defamation, which he argued should be treated as a civil dispute rather than a criminal offence.
VeryDarkMan joined a growing chorus of voices demanding Eedie Bliss’s release and went further to issue a public ultimatum, warning that her continued detention could severely harm Mercy Johnson’s public image and reputation. His intervention appeared to intensify the already heated public discourse surrounding the case.
Confirming the TikToker’s release, VeryDarkMan later took to his Instagram page to express appreciation to the actress for withdrawing the charges. In his post, he urged the public to end what he described as sustained bullying against Mercy Johnson and her family, while also declaring his intention to challenge defamatory claims made against them.
Investigations reveal that Eedie Bliss was arrested over a TikTok video she posted in December 2025, in which she made damaging allegations against Mercy Johnson and her husband, Prince Henry Okojie. In the video, the content creator claimed that Prince Okojie had allegedly bought a house for a pregnant woman she described as his mistress.
Citing a popular online blog, Cutie Juls, as her source, Eedie Bliss further alleged that Mercy Johnson was involved in a plot with the woman’s house help that allegedly resulted in a miscarriage. These claims sparked widespread outrage, prompting the actress and her family to seek legal redress.
While many Nigerians have welcomed the TikToker’s release as a victory for free expression and due process, others continue to debate the increasing tendency to involve security agencies in disputes arising from online publications and alleged defamation.
As at the time of filing this report, Mercy Johnson-Okojie and her legal representatives have not issued an official statement explaining the reasons behind the withdrawal of the charges or outlining any further legal steps.
