The brother of late Nollywood actress, producer, and director Allwell Ademola has publicly apologised to fellow actress Iyabo Ojo over comments he made in the aftermath of his sister’s death.
The apology was delivered on Thursday, January 8, 2026, during a service of songs held in honour of the late actress. Speaking directly to Iyabo Ojo at the event, he appealed for understanding and asked her not to take his earlier statements personally. He clarified that his remarks were never intended as an attack on her.
“Please ma, don’t be offended. I did not mean to insult or abuse you. I was not referring to you at all,” he said while addressing her before mourners.
His apology follows a controversial video he shared online in December 2025, shortly after Allwell Ademola’s passing. In the video, he criticised several Nollywood actors and actresses, accusing them of hypocrisy in the way they publicly mourned his sister. He alleged that many of those who paid glowing tributes after her death failed to support her while she was alive.
According to him, some colleagues who claimed to be close friends did not help promote her film Eniobanke when it was released. He also expressed disappointment that despite his sister’s goodwill and support for others in the industry, she did not receive similar encouragement in return.
He further claimed that during the production of the popular movie Jagun Jagun, no one contacted his sister or offered her a role, despite her experience and contributions to the Yoruba film industry. He added that some actors, including Iyabo Ojo and others, had previously used their family house as filming locations but allegedly failed to stand by Allwell Ademola during difficult periods of her life and career.
In his emotional outburst at the time, he stated that anyone who could not support his sister while she was alive had no moral right to display loyalty or affection after her death.
Iyabo Ojo later responded publicly to the allegations, firmly rejecting the claims. She maintained that she supported Allwell Ademola during her lifetime, both professionally and personally. According to Iyabo Ojo, she featured in several of the late actress’ films without charging a fee and also provided financial and emotional support as Allwell built her career as a producer and director.
Allwell Ademola was a well-known figure in the Yoruba film industry, celebrated for her work as an actress, filmmaker, and creative force. Her death sparked widespread reactions within Nollywood, along with conversations about support, loyalty, and recognition among industry colleagues.
