The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected reports alleging that it held meetings with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to guarantee him an automatic governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in a telephone interview, the party’s Secretary, Alhaji Zakari Sarina, described the claims as unfounded and deliberately misleading. He said the reports were nothing more than rumours being circulated by individuals he referred to as “enemies of Kano,” whose aim, according to him, is to sow discord and heat up the political atmosphere in the state.
Sarina, as reported by Arise Television, stressed that at no point did the APC engage in discussions with Governor Yusuf or any of his representatives regarding automatic ticket arrangements or special political concessions. He maintained that the party has not entered into any form of secret negotiation with the governor and has made no promises concerning future elections.
While clarifying the party’s position, the APC scribe noted that the party remains open and inclusive, adding that Governor Yusuf would be welcomed if he ever chooses to align with the APC. However, he emphasized that such openness should not be misconstrued as evidence of behind-the-scenes deals or pre-arranged political agreements.
He urged APC members, supporters, and the general public to ignore speculative reports and refrain from giving credence to narratives designed to create unnecessary tension. According to Sarina, the party’s priority in Kano State is promoting unity, supporting good governance, and advancing development rather than engaging in premature political maneuvering.
Sarina further assured that the APC is committed to a transparent, fair, and inclusive political process as the state gradually moves toward future electoral cycles. He added that any discussions about political realignments or candidacies for 2027 remain speculative at this stage and should not be presented as established facts.
