Nene Aderigbigbe, the mother of popular Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, has revealed the personal reasons behind her decision to completely sever ties with three women she once considered close friends.
In a candid post shared on her Instagram page, Nene reflected on past decisions she made regarding her relationships, admitting that she has sometimes wondered whether she may have been too harsh. However, upon deeper reflection, she maintained that each friendship ended for valid reasons that left her feeling uncomfortable and emotionally unsettled.
According to her, the first friendship collapsed due to a serious breach of trust. Nene explained that the friend disclosed a private conversation she had shared with her husband without her consent. She described the act as a deep betrayal, stressing that intimate discussions between friends should always be treated with confidentiality. The incident left her feeling exposed and disrespected, prompting her to immediately cut off communication. Since then, she has not spoken to the friend again.
The second friendship, she said, ended as a result of the friend’s husband’s behavior. Nene revealed that the man frequently reached out to her, updating her on his whereabouts and sharing personal details she found unnecessary and inappropriate. She emphasized that her relationship was strictly with his wife and that any direct or personal interaction with him made her uneasy. Unable to tolerate the discomfort, she decided to withdraw entirely from the friendship.
Nene further disclosed that the third friendship ended because of emotional fatigue. She explained that the friend, who had been married for more than 20 years, constantly called her to complain about ongoing issues in her marriage. Over time, Nene said she felt mentally and emotionally drained by the repetitive negativity, especially since there was nothing she could do to resolve the situation. She eventually realized she could no longer serve as an emotional dumping ground for problems beyond her control.
She added that she chose not to explain her reasons to any of the three friends at the time she cut them off. Even now, she noted, they remain unaware of what led to her silence. Nevertheless, Nene stated that her decisions were made deliberately and were necessary to protect her peace of mind and emotional well-being.
