Armed bandits on Sunday abducted three members of the same family in the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident occurred as the victims were returning from a condolence visit, adding to a growing list of security breaches that have left residents increasingly anxious.
According to community sources, the attack took place around 7:00 a.m. The victims—residents of the Agboro community—were reportedly intercepted along their return route before being forced away by the gunmen. Information later circulated that the abductors were moving the captives toward the Isanlu axis in neighbouring Kogi State, a route frequently exploited by criminal groups due to its difficult terrain and limited security presence.
Those kidnapped were identified by local informants as Abiodun Abidemi and Abiodun Olumide, both brothers of the deceased relative they had gone to mourn, and Ayomide Moses, the son of the same deceased individual. Their abduction has intensified fear among locals, who say the Patigi area has endured months of repeated attacks despite the presence of security checkpoints and community vigilance efforts.
Residents expressed deep frustration, describing the situation as a “persistent siege” that has weakened economic activities and restricted free movement. Many accused authorities of not doing enough to curb the escalating insecurity.
However, when contacted about the incident, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said he had not received any report on the abduction, adding that he was “not aware” of such an occurrence.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement, and there was no confirmed update on efforts to locate or rescue the three kidnapped relatives.
