President Bola Tinubu has named retired Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Abubakar Idris Adamu as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, with the appointment taking effect from December 1, 2025.
According to reports from Naija News, the appointment is part of the federal government’s ongoing effort to enhance the management of pensions for retired military personnel and ensure the timely disbursement of their benefits. The move reflects a broader strategy to improve the welfare of ex-service members and strengthen confidence in the nation’s pension system.
AVM Adamu brings to the role extensive experience from a distinguished career in the Nigerian Air Force, having served in a variety of senior leadership and financial management positions. His previous roles include:
- Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College,
- Deputy Director of Budget at the Defence Intelligence Agency,
- Principal Staff Officer for Finance at the Air Warfare Centre,
- Leadership of the 081 Pay and Accounting Group,
- Management of finance at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters,
- Head of Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL), overseeing the NAFIL Group of Companies, and
- Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru.
The President urged AVM Adamu to leverage his extensive financial acumen and leadership experience to enhance the welfare of military retirees, ensure transparency, and maintain the integrity of the board’s operations.
The appointment comes at a time when the Military Pensions Board is undergoing reforms aimed at safeguarding the entitlements of former service members and streamlining processes for better efficiency. Analysts view AVM Adamu’s wealth of experience as a critical asset in modernizing the administration of military pensions and reinforcing public trust in the system.
