Fulham defender and Nigerian international Calvin Bassey has openly declared that Victor Osimhen is a superior striker to Manchester City’s prolific forward, Erling Haaland. Bassey, who shares the national team dressing room with Osimhen, praised the Galatasaray star’s exceptional quality and impact on both club and country.
Speaking in an interview with Turkish outlet Habersarikirmizi, Bassey did not hesitate when asked to compare the two high-profile forwards.
“Osimhen is better than Haaland, so he’s more difficult. Sorry Haaland,” he said, emphasizing that the Super Eagles forward brings a level of intensity and unpredictability that few strikers in the world can match.
Bassey went on to highlight Osimhen’s remarkable rise in European football, noting his impressive performances in the Champions League and his crucial contributions to the Nigerian national team.
“Osimhen is incredible,” he continued. “What he has done for his country, what he has achieved in the Champions League—it’s truly amazin a lethal striker.”
The Fulham defender admitted he had mixed feelings about Osimhen not making a move to the English Premier League. While he believes the league would have benefited from Osimhen’s presence, he also confessed that he is relieved not to face him week in, week out.
“I was both happy and sad that he didn’t come to the Premier League. It would have been a great move for h honestly, I’m glad I don’t have to defend against him regularly,” he said with a laugh.
Despite that, Bassey expressed confidence that Osimhen is thriving at Galatasaray, describing the Turkish giants as a “massive club” where the Nigerian forward is already showcasing his world-class ability.
“He’s at a very big club now and he’s doing great things—really incredible
things,” Bassey added.
Stephen Odey Set to Leave Randers
In other Nigerian football news, striker Stephen Odey is preparing to part ways with Danish side Randers when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Odey joined the Superliga outfit during the 2021–2022 campaign, initially on loan with an option to buy. His performances convinced the club to make the deal permanent, and he went on to score 28 goals in 129 matches across all competitions.
After four and a half years in Denmark, the 27-year-old is expected to secure a move elsewhere in January as he seeks the next chapter in his professional career.
