The Ondo State Government has announced the creation of Diaspora Focal Desks in all 18 Local Government Areas, a move designed to strengthen the state’s relationship with its citizens living abroad and to extend the benefits of global connections to local communities.
The initiative was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Media and Public Relations, Abdur-Rahman Balogun. According to the statement, the project aims to broaden participation, improve communication between the state and its diaspora population, and ensure that every local government enjoys direct access to opportunities driven by global partnerships.
The release explained that the new Diaspora Focal Desks will operate as community-level contact points, improving data collection, coordination, and outreach to Ondo indigenes abroad. By bringing engagement closer to the grassroots, the government hopes to create a more responsive and community-oriented system that supports development initiatives led by citizens outside the country.
During a stakeholder meeting in Akure, the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora Relations, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, emphasized that the project is meant to unlock socio-economic opportunities at the local level. He noted that the development aligns with the administration’s OUR EASE agenda, which focuses on building a more inclusive, connected, and economically vibrant state.
Akinlosotu, alongside the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, briefed all 18 Local Government Chairmen on how the desks will operate, stressing that they will help bridge the gap between global Ondo citizens and their home communities.
The state government believes the establishment of these focal desks represents a major step toward harnessing the skills, resources, and influence of its diaspora population for investment, cultural advancement, and policy development. The initiative is expected to open new channels for collaboration and contribute significantly to the state’s long-term growth.
