Former Africa Cup of Nations champion Kenneth Omeruo has advised the Super Eagles to remain disciplined and focused as they prepare for a decisive Group C encounter against Tunisia at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Nigeria and Tunisia are set to clash tonight at the 40,000-seat Fez Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 9 p.m. The fixture is widely regarded as one of the most anticipated matches of the group stage, given the pedigree and rivalry between both nations. Having secured victories in their opening matches, each team knows that another win would guarantee early qualification for the round of 16.
The Super Eagles began their campaign with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Tanzania, thanks to goals from defender Semi Ajayi and winger Ademola Lookman. Tunisia, meanwhile, sent a strong message to their rivals by producing an impressive 3–1 win against Uganda, showcasing their attacking sharpness and tactical discipline.
Despite Nigeria’s encouraging start, Omeruo has warned that Tunisia will pose a significantly tougher challenge. Tunisia are more technical than the team we faced in our first match.”
Omeruo emphasized that while Nigeria always approaches games with a winning mentality, composure and quality will be key. “We always play to win, but I also expect good football and smart decisions on the pitch,” he added.
At 31, Omeruo is well-versed in the unique demands of the Africa Cup of Nations. He was an integral part of Nigeria’s triumphant squad at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa under the guidance of the late Stephen Keshi. During that historic campaign, Omeruo featured in a disciplined defensive line alongside Elderson Echiéjilé, Joseph Yobo, and Godfrey Oboabona, helping the Super Eagles maintain solidity at the back en route to lifting the trophy.
Drawing from that experience, Omeruo’s message is clear: talent alone is not enough at AFCON. Focus, tactical awareness, and respect for the opposition will be crucial as Nigeria aim to overcome Tunisia and take a major step toward continental success once again.
