Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 3 Division, operating as part of Operation Lafiyan Jama’a, have successfully rescued four abducted individuals and eliminated one suspected kidnapper during a coordinated ambush in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence reports indicating that four residents had been abducted from Rimi village in the Jere District of Bassa LGA. Acting swiftly on the information, troops attached to Sector 1 of the operation mobilised from their base in Jingre in the early hours of Friday.
At approximately 3:28 a.m., the soldiers strategically positioned themselves along a route believed to be the escape path of the kidnappers. The well-planned ambush led to a confrontation when the troops encountered the criminal elements. A brief but intense exchange of gunfire ensued, compelling the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee the area.
In the course of a follow-up sweep of the surroundings, the troops discovered the body of one kidnapper who was neutralised during the firefight. The soldiers also recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition left behind by the fleeing suspects, including an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The four rescued victims were immediately secured, debriefed by military personnel, and later reunited with their families. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or casualties were recorded among the troops involved in the operation.
Military sources disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the kidnapping syndicate. They further assured the public that the morale and operational effectiveness of the troops remain high, as the Nigerian Army continues its commitment to restoring peace and security across Plateau State and surrounding areas.
