The Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, is reportedly preparing to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that signals a major political realignment ahead of future elections.
This development was made public on Monday in Abuja by the governor’s political adviser, Istifanus Nwansat, during an interaction with journalists. According to Nwansat, the governor’s decision to join the APC is strongly influenced by the need to align more closely with the political direction and governance philosophy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He explained that prolonged internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have made the party increasingly unstable and unreliable as a viable platform for serious political engagement. The ongoing discord, he said, has weakened the PDP to the point where it can no longer provide a secure structure for politicians seeking to contest elections or effectively serve their constituents.
Nwansat noted that after a careful evaluation of the political landscape and the options available, the governor and his team concluded that joining the APC represents the most strategic and least risky path forward. He emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly but was based on thorough analysis and practical considerations.
He further stated that the governor believes it is both logical and responsible leadership to guide his supporters toward cooperation with the federal government. By aligning with the ruling party, the state stands a better chance of benefiting from national policies and development initiatives championed by President Tinubu.
Despite their roots in the PDP, Nwansat added that the governor and his allies acknowledge and commend the president’s efforts to stabilize governance and implement reforms at the national level. This recognition, he said, further reinforces the governor’s resolve to move into the APC in the interest of progress and effective leadership.
