The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has acknowledged receiving a formal petition from billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the anti-graft agency confirmed that the petition had been submitted and assured the public that the allegations contained therein would be thoroughly examined. The statement was signed by the commission’s spokesperson, John Okor Odey.
According to the ICPC, the petition was formally received on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, and was filed by Dangote through his legal representatives. The petition specifically targets the leadership of the NMDPRA, with Farouk Ahmed named as the subject of the complaint.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission confirms that it received a formal petition today, Tuesday, 16th December, 2025, from Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his lawyer. The petition is against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed,” the statement read.
“The ICPC wishes to assure the public that the petition will be duly investigated.”
The petition reportedly contains allegations of corruption and financial misconduct leveled against the NMDPRA boss. As part of his claims, Dangote is said to have provided detailed information relating to Ahmed’s family, including the names of his four children, the schools they attend in Switzerland, and the tuition fees paid for each of them. These details were included to support the allegations and aid the commission in verifying the claims.
While the ICPC has not disclosed further specifics of the allegations, the commission reiterated its commitment to transparency, due process, and impartial investigation, stressing that no individual is above scrutiny under the law.
The development has drawn significant public attention given Dangote’s stature as one of Africa’s most prominent businessmen and the strategic importance of the petroleum regulatory authority in Nigeria’s energy sector.
