Five employees of a construction company were kidnapped on Monday morning in Kwara State after suspected bandits attacked their work site, prompting swift action from security agencies across the area.
The abduction took place at approximately 11:40 a.m. along the Sabaja/Owa-Onire Road, where the workers were engaged in ongoing construction activities. The manager of Fix Contracting Engineering Company, Alhaji Suleiman Abdullah Olanrewaju, later reported the incident to security authorities at about 4:30 p.m., after confirming the disappearance of his staff.
The kidnapped workers were identified as two engineers—Engr. Ademola Afolabi and Engr. Umar Lade—along with three other employees: Fatai and Akin, both labourers, and Yusuf, the company’s driver. According to initial accounts, the victims were forcibly taken away by armed men who stormed the site and fled into nearby bush paths.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the company manager first alerted military personnel operating in the area before formally lodging a complaint with the police. This early report helped trigger a coordinated response from multiple security units.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Oreke immediately deployed police operatives to the area. The police team is working alongside military units and local vigilante groups in a joint operation to track down the abductors. The combined force is currently conducting intensive searches of surrounding forests and rural routes believed to be potential escape paths used by the kidnappers.
Security sources say efforts are focused on rescuing the abducted workers unharmed and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities have assured residents that updates will be provided as the operation continues.
The latest abduction adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara State, particularly along isolated roads and construction corridors, where workers and travelers remain vulnerable to criminal attacks.
