A subtle drama unfolded in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Sunday during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, coinciding with the formal installation of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as the ‘Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua’.
The incident, captured in a video that quickly went viral on social media, occurred when Senator Tinubu interrupted Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as he addressed the gathering. In the footage, Governor Adeleke was seen singing mid-speech to the delight of the audience, when the First Lady approached the podium and, in a firm but low voice, urged him to conclude his remarks.
“I’ll give you five minutes to finish your speech. Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone,” Senator Tinubu was heard saying.
The event, hosted in the historic city of Ile-Ife, drew a large crowd of traditional rulers, political leaders, and distinguished guests from across the South-West region and beyond. The ceremony celebrated Senator Tinubu’s chieftaincy title, recognising her significant contributions to the Yoruba people and her role in national development.
