The global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by the esteemed Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, proudly extends heartfelt congratulations to the men and women of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) as they mark their fifth anniversary. Your unwavering bravery and dedication serve as a powerful reminder that organized crime, violent extremism, and lawlessness can be effectively resisted when leadership is principled, transparent, and committed to the welfare of the people.
The Eastern Security Network was founded by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on December 12, 2020, as a community-driven security initiative aimed at addressing the profound security void that had left Biafraland vulnerable to armed gangs, including Sahelian herdsmen and allied extremist groups. These violent actors operated with near-total impunity, threatening lives, livelihoods, and the very fabric of Biafran society. ESN is comprised of disciplined IPOB volunteers who voluntarily set aside personal comfort and professional ambitions to safeguard their ancestral lands.
Prior to the establishment of ESN, countless Biafran communities faced daily terror. Farms were decimated, women and children violated, villages abandoned, and innocent lives lost without accountability—a pattern tragically echoed across Nigeria’s Middle Belt. The creation of ESN marked a turning point, restoring hope and security. Attacks have significantly declined, and farmers can now cultivate their lands without fear, thanks to the vigilance and sacrifice of these selfless defenders.
Despite persistent propaganda, intimidation, and orchestrated attacks, ESN operatives have remained steadfast. They have faced unprovoked assaults, smear campaigns, and sabotage attempts—often fueled by local collaborators motivated by greed or allegiance to invaders—but have never wavered in their mission. These actions, designed to undermine the reputation of ESN, have ultimately failed, as the people of Biafra continue to recognize and honor those who genuinely protect their communities.
Many ESN operatives have endured abductions, attacks on their families, and even paid the ultimate price in defense of Biafra. Yet, their commitment remains unwavering: no inch of Biafran land shall be surrendered or overrun.
The IPOB family worldwide celebrates the courage, discipline, and resilience of ESN operatives, who continue to secure forests and rural communities under extremely challenging conditions. Operating with limited resources, largely funded by voluntary contributions from IPOB members globally, ESN has successfully disrupted, contained, and dismantled armed threats that once terrorized Biafraland. Their achievements demonstrate the profound impact of community-based security when driven by collective purpose and determination.
IPOB calls on all Biafrans to actively support ESN through vigilance, intelligence sharing, and cooperation. Additionally, we urge the United States Government and the international community to recognize the larger threat posed by jihadist and extremist groups operating in Nigeria, including Boko Haram, ISWAP, Ansaru, Lakurawa, and allied factions. Supporting legitimate community-led security initiatives like ESN is essential to restoring stability, safeguarding lives, and protecting vulnerable populations.
On this landmark occasion, we once again salute the Eastern Security Network for five years of dedicated service, courage, and selfless protection of our people and homeland.
