The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has unveiled a new set of compulsory requirements for individuals seeking to update their Business Name information online. The revised policy, which the commission says takes immediate effect, is part of a broader effort to enhance verification processes and improve the quality and reliability of business records across Nigeria.
In an announcement shared via its official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, December 10, the CAC explained that applicants will now be required to provide additional personal and contact details before any online update request can be approved.
According to the commission, the new guidelines stipulate that every Business Name online update must now include the proprietor’s date of birth, a functional email address for the registered office, the proprietor’s email address, and a dedicated phone number for either the registered office or the business owner—whichever is applicable. Applicants must also upload a valid means of identification.
A Move to Improve Documentation and Curb Abuse
The CAC noted that the updated requirements are part of its ongoing reforms aimed at tightening documentation standards, preventing identity-related fraud, and promoting transparency within its registry. By mandating verifiable contact information, the agency hopes to improve its ability to communicate directly with business owners and ensure that records remain accurate and up to date.
The commission added that the reforms will support smoother compliance checks and create a more secure, trustworthy business environment for entrepreneurs and investors.

Over the past few years, the CAC has transitioned from manual procedures to a fully digital system for business registrations, incorporations, and post-registration updates. This shift has reduced processing times and improved accessibility for users nationwide.
